Novel Weekly Update #3 – A Certain Rhythm
I seem to have found a certain rhythm to things (ha, title drop!)
Yet again this week I had relatively steady output only to have a few days of faltered output later in the week. Yet again come Monday I’ve been able to write nearly double my usual output after that break, so it may appear that I need some days off during my routine after all.
To be honest, this is pretty frustrating, I’d really like to fall into a permanent steady rhythm rather than doing all of my bursts of writing in staccato. I’ve passed the 20k word mark , finally, but I was hoping to be closer to 25k by now, and I had set myself a goal of finishing act 1 this week. It turns out that effectively stringing scenes together towards the key scenes defined in my outline has been a little bit more of a challenge than I thought, but I do think certain things are beginning to come together for Anabella’s story that are working well.
I’ve also slowed down considerably in regards to my writing put towards this blog, I guess I was spreading myself a little too thin overall early on in my writing journey. I still hope I’ll be able to devote more time towards here once I develop more of a steady routine in regards to completing my writing goals each day, at the moment while I’ve managed a steady output overall there isn’t that much of a routine or rhythm to it besides going to the local queer coffee place with my roommate.
So there is a rhythm nonetheless, but it’s to the beat of its own drum, and for now I guess that will have to be fine. I’ve only been writing full-time for a few weeks now after all, and I missed some days here and there, so I’ve probably got less than 20 days of experience at this. Who knows where I’ll be at in a week? In a month?
Current Word Count (First Draft): 20,658 words at time of writing.
