Things have been going well, again, I suppose. I’ve exceeded 46,000 words, meaning I’m slowly approaching the 50k milestone, which will put me nearly halfway to the finish with my first draft (aiming for a goal of 100k-150k words for the first draft.) Slowly the complications of the plot have begun to unfold, and the personalities of the characters become a little stronger with each scene. I’ve discovered that writing intriguing schemes and/or plots can be relatively difficult, as well as explaining them to your friends when you need to pick their brain on something. The problem being, that, however clever or creative your plot might be, there’s usually something simpler and more likely to be practical. However a simpler, more practical plot seems like it would be a lot more likely to be boring.
There’s a mildly interesting scheme unfolding in my novel at the moment, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’ll need to revise it multiple times over the course of future drafts. Another large focus is going to need to be on who knows what information, and when. Another issue I feel I may be running into is that much of the outlining and notes I took at the beginning of this project, and even a lot of the scene work I wrote early on, is going to have to be completely rewritten and changed in the course of the second draft if I want anything resembling a coherent story, particularly when it comes to the first act. I do think my story is coming together, but it’s been pretty difficult to let the story naturally evolve as art while still ensuring I’m following the most basic rules of narrative

It’s been a pretty slow week, but a consistent one, for the most part.
